The Board of Directors of the Hellenic Bank Association (HBA) hosts a working luncheon for Deutsche Bundesbank President Dr Jens Weidmann
Today, Thursday 30 August 2018, the Chairman of the HBA, Mr Nikolaos Karamouzis, along with the members of HBA’s Board of Directors, hosted a working luncheon at HBA’s premises in honour of their distinguished guest, Dr Jens Weidmann, the President of the Deutsche Bundesbank.
During the meeting, which was also attended by the Governor of the Bank of Greece Yiannis Stournaras, the CEOs of HBA’s member banks, the heads of HBA’s Steering Committees and the HBA Secretary General, a number of issues were discussed, including the improvement of the macroeconomic conditions, the market and business climate, growth prospects, and the progress made by the banking system in addressing the challenges that emerged in the wake of the crisis. Furthermore, the discussion was focused on all initiatives undertaken by the systemically important banks aimed at gradually restoring the health of the banking sector, most notably in terms of reducing non-performing exposures (NPEs).
Moreover, it was stressed that, following the successful completion of the economic support programme, it is essential to restore and maintain the confidence of international markets in the outlook for the Greek economy, secure full and uninterrupted access to international markets and, at the same time, create the necessary conditions for delivering strong, sustainable and inclusive growth within a framework of financial stability, fiscal prudence and an increasingly competitive Greek economy.
