European Money Week 2020 – Third National Competition EMQ 2020 – Greece
The Hellenic Bank Association (HBA) participated for a sixth consecutive year with relevant activities in the "European Money Week" of the European Banking Federation (EBF).
In this context, the third National Competition for the European Money Quiz was successfully completed on June 3rd, 2020.
The competition was conducted online among 72 classes from 23 Gymnasiums in Greece, coming from Athens, Chania, Chalkida, Galaxidi, Kavala, Larissa, Mytilene, Sikinos, Thessaloniki and Tripoli.
The winner was class B1 of the Gymnasium “Karavana School” in Larissa, followed by class Β3 of Doukas School Gymnasium in Athens and class A2 also of the Gymnasium “Karavana School” in Larissa. The above classes not only answered correctly all or almost all of the competition 15 questions but also in the shortest time.
The National Competition is only the first part of the joint initiative with EBF concerning financial education programs for pupils aged 13-15 years old. Under normal circumstances, the winning class would represent its school and Greece in the European Money Quiz Competition in Brussels.
However, the European Banking Federation (EBF), due to the preventive measures against the adverse effects of the COVID-19 corona pandemic, has announced that the European EMQ Finals will not be held in Brussels this year. Instead, EBF invites everyone to join the GREAT FINAL "GRANDE FINALE" on Tuesday, June 16, 2020, in a live broadcast across Europe. During the event, the National Winners of each competing country will be presented. The event will end with a Quiz Competition in English, in which anyone can participate: students (winners or not), parents, friends, teachers, other third parties, etc. The event will mark the official closing of the European Money Quiz 2020.
HBA will offer a laptop, as a personal reward, to the students-Greek Champions. In addition, the first three winning classes will also receive a PC for their schools.
HBA warmly thanks all the schools, students and teachers for their participation in the national competition and the interest they have shown in this initiative, despite the difficulties faced this year. Significant was also the contribution of the relevant Directorate of the Ministry of Education, Research and Religious Affairs for disseminating the competition throughout the country.
HBA aim through this initiative is to make financial education possible/accessible even in the most distant areas of Greece. Thus, the EMQ dedicated website https://www.hba.gr/info/emq will remain active throughout the year so that the Games can be accessed by all, students, teachers and parents.
