Banks’ measures to support individual borrowers
Greek banks, members of the Hellenic Bank Association, in constant cooperation with the Greek Government and the Supervisory Authorities, decided to adopt additional measures to support the Greek economy and mitigate the impact of the health crisis on businesses as well as on individuals.
Hence, following their close cooperation with Ministers of Finance and Development & Investments, Mr. Christos Staikouras and Mr. Adonis Georgiadis respectively, banks decided to support, apart from businesses, individuals proven to be affected by the crisis, by providing them facilities for paying the instalments of their performed loans.
Priority will be given to individuals (employees, self-employed and sole enterprises) directly affected due to suspension of works of said enterprises, within the context of the measures already adopted by the Government, and will receive a financial aid of €800. For the specific category of directly affected individuals, banks, following their contact with the borrower, will suspend the instalments’ payment for a period of three months.
Furthermore, banks adapt their communication with debtors according to the current extreme and sensitive conditions.
However, it should be stressed that individuals and businesses not affected by the crisis are expected to continue responding consistently to their loan obligations.
